First, meet the test subjects who were a little worn out after their photo shoot. Ashenpaw is the border collie and Calypso is the sheltie. Nightbird selected Calypso to ghost intentionally as she is elderly and tends to stay in one place, unlike her exhuberant younger pack brother.

You'll need a pane of clear, reflective glass, NOT non-glare! You want the refection. Be careful as the edges of the glass may be sharp! Additionally light sources are needed to spot light the subject. Nightbird used a flashlight and the tent light that was employed in the UFO. This is made easier with the assistance of another pair of hands. Preferable is a subject who will stay put long enough to figure out how to light things!

In an area where you can control the lighting, place the pane of glass in front of the subject and yourself. Darken behind you as much as possible! Light objects will be reflected in the glass and spoil the effect. Hold a light source over the subject so it illuminates just the object. Be certain your camera and yourelf are not lit up. Zoom in so that the edges of the glass do not show and snap away! You need some light on the opposite side of the glass to have objects for the reflection to overlay. In the above shot, Nightbird is right behind Calypso and purposefully zoomed back to show the setup up. Overlapping other subjects also makes for a great effect! When Ash laid down on the other side of the glass the effect became more striking than the image in the middle of the room. A little harder to see at first glance, but you can tell something isn't right there.
Tips and Tricks Things to keep in mind when doing this is lighting lighting lighting! Cannot stress that enough. Different colored lights create different effects a wide beam flashlight had a nice effect when levered towards Calypso. Experiment with the background lighting as well... too dark and the effect is lost, too bright and the ghost washes out. This is the hardest balance to strike. Always take care to ensure you do not light yourself into the photograph. Wear dark clothing to blend in behind the pane of glass.
Two neat photos that we're quite there. The first used the tent light and made her too big, but the effect was still cool. The second has Ash lit with a flashlight and Calypso with the tent light. Unfortunately, the door jab decided to show in the upper left corner. Oh well!
